Arguably one of the best-known applications for the mobile channel, polls are most often used to increase customer response in real time (e.g. during radio programs or at live events).
First, login and choose Promotions => New Promotion from the drop-down menu.
Next you’ll be taken to a screen presenting a list of promotion types available to choose from. In this instance, you’ll want to select the Poll option.
Next you’ll provide some basic information about the poll. Steps include:
- Provide a name for the poll – this shall serve as your point of reference for the promotion
- (Optional) Specifying a keyword for participants to send via text message to retrieve voting options. This is an optional step in the setup as it’s not required, but some people have found this useful to ask their audience to enter the poll using one keyword vs using memory recall to remember the specific option they wish to vote for.
- Define how many times a person may vote (1-20 or unlimited). The default is set to unlimited.
- Specify a start date and time
- Specify a end date and time
Next, you’ll be defining the poll question and voting options:
- Enter the question you’re asking
- Choose keywords to associate with responses
- Provide a description for the voting option associated with each keyword
- Configure an automatic response sent to voters. Note that you have full control over this message and can have a lot of fun inserting dynamic data based on current results (ex: include the keyword, description and total votes for the top two entries).
Finally, you’ll activate your poll by clicking on the Create button on the right hand side of the screen.
You should now arrive at a screen summarizing details of your campaign, offering real time charts of contest entry activity and a flow illustrating the messages that comprise the campaign.
